Digitizing CUA's Student Newpaper
Overview of Project
In the near future, Catholic University would like to move forward on a plan to digitize their student newspaper, The Tower. For the final project, our team conducted research into various digitization services, focusing primarily on those provided by the Washington Research Library Consortium's Digital Collection Production Center (WRLC-DCPC), of which Catholic University is a member. We also surveyed a number of other digitization services and products in order to give our client, the Catholic University Archives, a broader picture of what digitization involves. In addition, we surveyed other vendors in the marketplace in order to provide enough background information to make a decision.
Our goals for this project were not to develop a digitization plan for the client; rather, we set out to conduct in-depth research on WRLC's digitization program and policies, to understand our client's product, to collect data on various digitization services, to investigate digitization best practices and standards, and to research case studies of similar products. Through this project, we hoped to gain experience collaborating with peers on a technology project and to teach our fellow students how many moving pieces are involved in a real-world project.
